Racing Against Time to Provide Warm, Safe Shelter! Emergency Relief for the Wenchuan Earthquake Disaster Area in Sichuan, China
On May 12, 2008, a massive 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan, China, leaving millions of people homeless in an instant. Temporary housing became the most urgently needed strategic resource in the aftermath of the disaster. At that time, known as a“benchmark manufacturer”of temporary housing in South China, Zhongwai Ganglian Smart MFG (Foshan) Co., Ltd. ’s parent company, stepped up to the challenge. Operating at an unprecedented production intensity, the company threw itself into this race against time to ensure a steady supply of temporary housing for the disaster-stricken areas.
Faced with the massive national task set by the State Council of China to “construct one million units of temporary housing within three months,” as well as the emergency dispatch requiring a daily output of 15,000 to 18,000 units from manufacturers nationwide, we swiftly broke through conventional production capacity limits and switched all production lines to disaster relief mode. We implemented round-the-clock, three-shift operations with production lines running at full capacity, ensuring that every housing unit shipped to the disaster area met standards for wind, rain, and fire resistance, as well as basic living functionality. In just a few short months, nearly one million housing units were erected, resolving the temporary housing needs of tens of millions of disaster victims. These units were specifically allocated for the construction of disaster victim resettlement sites, temporary medical stations, and school classrooms, establishing the first line of defense for daily life in the disaster-stricken areas.
In the face of the immense challenge posed by the Wenchuan Earthquake, we earned high praise and a strong reputation both on the front lines of the disaster zone and within the industry through the massive shipment volume, superior product quality, and exceptional delivery efficiency demonstrated during this supply operation. We have become a recognized backbone of the temporary construction supply chain—a force capable of withstanding the toughest challenges and worthy of trust.
